Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQ
How do you pronounce Snipe-IT?
Snipe-IT is pronounced "Snipe-Eye-Tee". Eye-Tee as in I.T., as in Information Technology.
Who or what is Grokability?
Grokability, Inc is the name of the company that makes Snipe-IT. Snipe-IT is the product, Grokability is the company. To learn more about Grokability, click here.
Is Snipe-IT really free?
It really is! Of course we have affordable hosted and support-only subscriptions available as well.
What payment methods are available?
Snipe-IT supports credit/debit card subscriptions only. We do not currently support purchase orders.
What license is Snipe-IT licensed under?
Snipe-IT uses the AGPL license.
Is there an automatic network/asset discovery agent or any plans to develop one?
We don't currently provide a network agent, however we do have a robust REST API that can be integrated with agents if you know a little programming.
While we wouldn't rule out eventually building our own agents, we find that organizations vary widely in their specific needs, and often use a combination of different tools to handle their unique scenario just right. (When a vendor says they're a one-stop shop, they usually aren't.)
We feel that it's a better use of our resources to provide a fantastic API that users can incorporate into their own integrations instead of carrying the overhead that would be required to have agents working on such a wide range of operating systems and hardware.
Does Snipe-IT work with barcode scanners?
Snipe-IT will work with any standard USB/Bluetooth barcode scanner.
Does Snipe-IT integrate with Active Directory / LDAP or Azure AD?
Snipe-IT integrates with LDAP and Active Directory for user syncing and login. You can read more about that here.
Can we pay to have a feature request developed?
Because Snipe-IT is licensed under the AGPL, any code that gets written has to be made available to the community. In cases where a customer needs a specific feature we don't currently offer, if it's something we can implement that will benefit the entire community, we will try to do so.
Alternatively, you can always create a feature request on Github and add a bounty to it to encourage the community to work on it.
Do you have a reseller program?
Sorry, we do not currently have a reseller program.
Hosting FAQ
How much is a hosted account?
Hosted Snipe-IT accounts start at just $39.99 USD/month, or $399.99 USD/year.
See our Cloud Hosting page for details.
Where is customer data hosted?
Grokability, Inc (the proud creators of Snipe-IT) have servers in AWS data centers across the globe. When you sign up for a hosted account, you'll pick a timezone/region which will determine which data center your account will be provisioned in. We currently have servers in Oregon, N. Virginia, Sao Paulo, Ireland, Frankfurt, Singapore, and Sydney.
Where is the difference between the free version and the hosted version?
There is no difference at all. We don't hold back features from the free version of the software. The software you deploy if you use the free version is the exact same software we deploy for you if you have a hosted account. The only difference is that we handle maintenance, upgrades, and security.
Can we move from self-hosted to hosted?
Absolutely! Just generate a backup of your self-hosted Snipe-IT installation and send the zip file over with your app key. We'll import your data and any uploaded files you may have.
Professional Support FAQ
How much is Professional Support?
We have two Professional Support plans:
- Basic Support is $449.99 USD/year.
- Enterprise Support is $4999.99 USD/year.
See our Professional Support page for details.
Why does the Basic Support plan cost more than the hosted plan?
It seems counter-intuitive to charge more for (seemingly) doing less, but supporting our software on a system we don't control (and may not even have access to) is profoundly more challenging and time-consuming than supporting our software on a system we know inside and out.
What does the Basic Support plan cover?
As a Basic Support customer, you'll get personal help with upgrades, as well as priority bugfixes and feature requests from the engineers who built Snipe-IT. If your IT team runs into trouble with your Snipe-IT install, you won't find anyone more qualified to help.
What does the Enterprise Support plan cover?
As an Enterprise Support customer, you'll get all the benefits of Basic Support, as well as phone support, a private Slack channel, hands-on help with API integrations, a Cloud Hosted instance of Snipe-IT (if desired), and support for security questionnaires.
Professional Support
If you're hosting Snipe-IT on your own servers but want the security of knowing you've got support when you need it, we offer support plans for an annual subscription of $449.99 USD, or Enterprise Support for $4,999.99 USD/year.
